Does Aspirin prevent heart disease?

Researchers from the University of Southern California have recently simulated the outcome of all over 50s taking Aspirin daily in America. The results quite clearly showed that Aspirin had substantial benefits to the health of over 50s. Enough so that it added an extra 4 months to the life expectancy adding another 900,000 people to the population in the US by 2036.

The additions to the population were due to the decrease in people with cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, heart disease and blood clots. Why was the study done? the study was done to look into any possible benefits of people taking Aspirin on a regular basis. Obviously in america the guidelines are different meaning that where Americans will prescribe Aspirin we may not.

Whereas this may all sound good, the daily use of Aspirin is still a topic surrounded by controversy due to the possible side effects of taking the drug too often. It does however estimate another month of disability free life for every 1000 people. Worth the risk? That’s for you to decide. If you are interested in reading more follow this link.
