Silver Surfers' Day is on May 23rd 2008

Silver Surfers' Day is an annual opportunity for the nation to work together to help the 8-10million people living in the UK who have yet to taste the delights of email and the Internet.
A good first experience is key to help people overcome any fears or reluctance to be part of the information revolution that is transforming all our lives. So the Silver Surfers' Day campaign resources individuals and organisations (public or private, large or small) to invite older people in for a good 'first-taste' of email and the Internet in a safe, friendly environment.
Could you help? Or would you like to be invited to benefit from such an Event? You may know someone who has a little computer knowledge but who could learn to enjoy inviting a neighbour for coffee and surfing, or you may have organising energy to spare and be willing to make a larger event come true at a local library or other venue (you don't need computer knowledge to do that!), or you may work in a venue that has an Internet-connected computer and might (if you present it to them in the right way) be willing to invite local people in for a day or half-day. You may simply be curious, and maybe a little nervous, and wish you knew something - or a little more - about computers and what they can do for you.
Wherever you are on the journey towards digital literacy, you can contribute. And www.silversurfersday.org can help you - with resources, such as an Event Holders' Planning Resource, a Media Pack, a full set of brilliant little handouts on subjects from basic understanding the Internet to blogging and podcasting.
You'll also be invited to nominate someone as Silver Surfer of the Year, and they'll be Awarded in the Houses of Parliament in October; and you'll be invited to become a friend of Digital Unite, the organisation that manages Silver Surfers' Day.
If you'd like to remain in touch, put your email address into the sign-up slot on www.silversurfersday.org and you'll receive information as it becomes available. If you don't have an email address yet, then put this phone number up on your noticeboard and ring it around the second week of May to find out where your nearest taster Event will be: Learning Helpline: 0800 100 900
