Re-marriage on the rise amongst over 50s

With the excitement and hype building for the upcoming Royal Wedding, will you be buying a hat this year?  Maybe you’ve been invited to a wedding or two, or maybe you are getting married yourself!

According to an article in the Telegraph ‘Re-marriage in later life is on the rise as over-50s buck the trend of declining marriage rates’.

In general, according to the latest figures from the Office For National Statistics, marriage rates among older people have been increasing over recent years and falling at younger ages.  Interestingly it is divorcees that have embraced the later life marriage,  with the number of divorced men over 55 reaching 25,000 in 2015.

Abigail Lowther, associate solicitor with Hall Brown Family Law, said: “Men and women have realised that neither advancing years nor the heartbreak of divorce should necessarily be an obstacle to enjoying what’s left of their lives”.
